BLM land two miles west of Amboy. A big open graveled area. This is the trailhead to an extinct volcano.
Two vault toilets, not maintained often. Picnic tables with shade. No shade elsewhere. If you decide to hike out to the distant crater, head to the right side. Its easier to climb inside because the cone walls have long ago collapsed on that side.
Near Amboy, which is to be restored to its 1950′s glory.
Train tracks 1/2 mile away, during the night they blow the whistles every 1/2 hour as they drive through Amboy.

The site was paved in June, 2010 and is now posted as day-use. The area around may still be do-able under the two week rule. As of December, 2010, the trail is well-marked, though most of the interpretive signs are broken off. BLM asks that people only climb where marked, since erosion is damaging the crater.
