16.1 miles east of Roseburg on Highway 138, turn right on Little River Road and follow for 5.6 miles. Slight left toward Little River Rd. Turn right at the covered bridge on Cavitt Creek Road and continue for 3.2 miles to the recreation site. Elevation: 1,040 feet. Away from the more heavily travelled North Umpqua corridor, Cavitt Creek Falls Recreation Site is a favorite of the locals. Many are attracted to the swimming hole at the base of a 10-foot waterfall on Cavitt Creek. The campground includes eight campsites and several picnic sites surrounded by an abundant forest of fir, maple and oak trees. Not recommended for large RVs or trailers. There are many other BLM and other campgrounds around the area. See web link.

Update: There are 4 designated spots for RVs, trailers, and tent campers. However, three large rigs made their own spots across the parking lot from them.

This place is very active. Lots of families came in during the day to swim and cook out. A couple of tents came and went while we were there too. We saw 4 other RVs. One was out by 8am the next morning. The three others didn’t move. They were staying long term. One of the trailers didn’t have a vehicle to move it. We spoke with them. They seemed nice/safe enough. However, even though they have been told to leave by the ranger (before we got there), they don’t seem to be in any hurry.

I was never in any fear of my safety.

Noise level is high. There are trains on both sides of the park. There is also a highway adjacent the the park. Partying is quite common. There are also a lot of dogs and children.

Directions:
One mile east of Umatilla, OR, on Highway 730, and take the McNary Dam Road.

The casino has both truck and RV parking so it’s not necessary to park with the tractor trailers. The truck areas are on both the left and right of the casino, unpaved and dusty. It’s easy to overlook the RV parking. After pulling into the entry road swing around into the parking area closest to the main road. There are a few long parking spots marked RV on the pavement but this is a large area and you can park anywhere. It’s fairly level, with big shade trees and grassy areas – nicer than many campgrounds where we’ve stayed. It’s a little noisy because of the main highway traffic.
