Dispersed camping in a state forest. We didn’t explore this forest much just drove up the road until we found a flat pull off. The road up is well maintained gravel , one lane with very few spots where two vehicles can pass and a pretty steep grade.Okay for small C , van or truck camper but not enough room for a RV with a towed car to turn around.
From the town of Woodward travel east on PA route 45 about 4 miles. Just before the Hairy John picnic area ,turn left onto Winkelblech Road. Travel up the road about .8 miles and you’ll see an overlook on the left. Continue to the top of the hill and there’s a good pull off on the left across from the Winkleblech trail sign.
I believe that you are supposed to get a permit at the state forest office if you’re camping with a vehicle. It looks like one night is okay without a permit if you don’t have a vehicle. We didn’t get a permit but I guess doing that could be risking a fine.
It was very peaceful on top of this ridge , just a little noise from trucks climbing the hill down below on route 45.
