Bj’s is a membership warehouse retail stores (think Costco and Sam’s) on the United State’s east coast. The “free camping” is just plain old black top boondocking (AKA sleep in your vehicle/RV). You can purchase liquor and tobacco without being a member.

I don’t understand why all these Costco like places are listed on here… Who would camp in a parking lot? And why would they allow it?
Hi William,
Thanks for visiting our collection of places to camp for free. Many different types of people use this website for just as many different reasons. Some people are looking for a nice secluded spot with a view out in the middle of the bush. Others are just looking for a location to park their RV for one night (and don’t need or want RV park facilities) as they make their way to a destination. The latter folks are the ones that find this listing useful. A Costco parking lot is not a destination.
If you do not want the map interface to be cluttered with locations, like parking lots, that are not of interest to you, please use the check boxes in the main map interface to toggle them off. The interface will remember your preference and will not display them unless you put a check back in to the box.
Thanks again for visiting us. I hope the website is helpful to you!
Why would they allow it? Well, many businesses do not use their parking lots overnight, so they are not losing anything by allowing people to park there. The stores hope that, in turn, the people who park there over night will make purchases. Most RVers who spend the night in a Walmart parking lot will also purchase their groceries while there. That can mean $100s of dollars for the store.
Most nationwide businesses are open to allowing free, overnight RV parking but many cities have ordinances that prohibit it. So, listings on websites like ours help RVers know which ones allow it.
Thanks, guys! I had no idea that this was really allowed… and I wasn’t even thinking about RVs! Makes sense.
