Elevation 7200 feet. 10 sites, including one group area which can accomodate up to 50 campers, in open setting with pinyon-juniper forest at Bob Scott Summit. A number of roads from the campground and from Austin Summit are ideal for mountain biking or OHV use. Hunting for deer and elk in season. Fishing in Birch Creek, 8 miles south of the campground.
Location: 6 miles southeast of Austin on US 50.

Clean, free, relatively quiet, easy access from the road, well kept sites, lots of pretty birds and cute wild animals (rabbits and chipmunks), nice and big fire pits and fire wood easy to aquire, and even bathrooms. What else could you ask for when traveling on the loneliest road in America? Saved us money on a hotel and we enjoyed the sights so much!
I posted the previous review and wanted to update. This campsite is no longer free. It is 10.00 but STILL worth setting up camp. It has working bathrooms with sinks and mirrors and water pumps that pump out cold, clean water! And with the sites being as spacious as they are, I am 100% happy to pay 10 bucks!
We stayed here on August 26 & 27, 2011. This is a great little campground if you are passing thru. Good water at each site, great views of the mountains, and quiet. We stayed an extra day to visit the petroglyphs at Hickison campground which is east of here on Hwy 50. Hickison has no water. We have a 32 ft. 5w. Wouldn’t recommend anything larger. Good internet and cell service on Verizon. Still $10.00.
