Nice, cheap Forest Service campground. $6.00/night. Self pay station. Camping units on both sides of FM 2694. 20 sites allow horses on one side of street which also houses the National Fox Hound Graveyard. Other side of street has 10 or so sites. All sites have electric/water hookups. No dump at campground, but one is located at Ragtown Campground a few miles away. Boles Field has a hot shower house with flush toilets. All roads to campground are paved. Campground roads and sites gravel/dirt, but are level and easy to drive larger rigs on. There were other campers there with at least 30′ long rigs. Campground is located in a pine forest setting with little underbrush.
Directons: From Center, TX follow Highway 87 south for 4 miles. Turn left (east) on 417 in Shellbyville, TX. 417 splits at FM 2694. Follow FM 2694 for 8 miles to entrance. Information on campground is also online at the National Forest website.
