Braunig Lake Park is located just on the southern edge of San Antonio Texas off of I-37 at exit 130 if you are north bound. The camping area is located around the edge of a power plant lake. It is only 4.00 per night. The park also offers opportunities for camping, picnicking, birding and nature study. Although there are no formal hiking trails in the park, visitors will find ample opportunities to stretch their legs and explore. Facilities include covered picnic tables, restrooms and year-round concessions (fishing and picnic supplies, food and ice). A 75-person capacity pavilion with electricity and restrooms is available for group gatherings; call the park for reservations and availability. A children’s play area is located adjacent to the pavilion. They have a very small store and it’s a friendly inexpensive place to relax. The camp sites are on the waters edge and are grass shaded by large older trees. I put in for two days and they were very friendly and let me take my pick of locations. The restrooms have flush toilets and sicks to wash up in. There is no electricity or hookups for RVs but plenty of water front sites for them. The place is quiet and doesn’t seem to be crowded at all. The locals use the lake for fishing. There weren’t many campers at all.
The camping fees are:
Adults (16-64 years) $4.00 per night
Youth (6-15 years) $2.00 per night
Child (5 and under) no charge
Senior Citizen (65+) #2.00
Boat Launching $3.00
Reservations will be taken during the hours of 9AM through 5PM, Monday through Friday and can be made up to 12 months in advance.
The park is open until 10pm.
Convenience stores are just down the access road.

CPS , I was disappointed restroom were nasty !!!!, the picnic areas were also nasty picnic tables and benches were rotted and ugly. But my main complaint are the fire ants they are all over you, disturbing a mound. Also what would happen in case of a medical emergency the gates are lock going in the park. CPS you are asking for big time lawsuit. Also contractor staff are rude and make you feel they doing people a favor. Looks like entrance fees are not use to give the park a little TLC!!!!!. Thanks for the fire ant bites OUCH!!!!. George
Stayed there last night, the camp site itself is nice, with the majority of it overlooking the lake (albeit a powerplant on the other side) Georges comment is not untrue – but perhaps a little pessimistic! The rates are cheap, and the facilities are of a standard suitable for the price. The staff were extremely kind, and helpful, offering tourist information, among other things. One of the security guys jump started our van for us! We didn’t have any trouble with ants, I don’t know whether this due to the fact it’s winter, the ants were killed with chemicals, or if we just weren’t stupid enough to camp on an ant-hill!
Overall, a pleasant place to camp, but avoid if you struggle to sleep with a mildly noisey atmosphere, as the park is only a few hundred feet from the highway.
We stayed there for one night and as pensioners it only cost $4. It is very nice with friendly staff. The rest rooms are a bit basic but OK. You can get out at night over spikes but can’t get back in. It’s a shame about the powerplant but when the fishermen go it is very quiet. Good nights sleep.
