The Chief Joseph Wildlife Area totals 14,055 acres in Asotin and Garfield counties. It is managed in two units – Shumaker and Grouse Flats.
Camping is free but anyone entering or using a WDFW improved access facility is required to display a current WDFW Vehicle Use Permit. It is $10.95 and good for a year and for all WDFW locations. Purchase one here.

There are several access sites along the Grande Ronde and Joseph Creek. Restrooms are available.

The Chief Joseph Wildlife Area is open year-round. Motorized vehicles 48″ and under in size are permitted to travel up Green Gulch Road during the months of October and November only.
Directions:
From Asotin, go south on Snake River Rd for 26 miles. Turn south (left) on Joseph Creek Rd. Various units to left and right.
