This campground is on the banks of the Gila River and has beautiful cliffs serving as a natural backdrop.
The Grapevine Campground is named for an actual old grapevine that can be seen today. Today there is a large chain around it to protect it. The East, West and Middle Forks of the Gila River come together near this campground. No reservations taken. All on a first come, first serve basis.

A secluded box canyon six miles west of Socorro attracts mostly climbers, but is a pretty good spot for an RV overnight.

A rock climbing, hiking, and ATV destination on BLM land. All open primitive camping near the road. There are probably other places to overnight along the 10 or so miles of dirt road, but the canyon is worth seeing and wandering around. In another couple of miles the road hits the Rio Grande.

This tiny park is central to Southern New Mexico and close to White Sands National Park, the Sacramento Mountains, Caballo Reservoir, Indian ruins, the new space port, Truth or Consequences and more. The park itself is definitely not a destination. The majority of the park is filled with long-term residents. A separate area in the front is for over nighters. The laundry room is spacious and clean. There are no restrooms or showers. Internet is strong, but local TV channels are non-existent. Each site has a covered ramada with picnic table. GPS approximate.

Turn south off I-8 at MM164-Sidewinder Road. Dump is nearby at Shell station. Turn directly before the LTVA, 14 day Camping sign says 1.4 miles. Drive west for 1.2 miles and the free 14 day camping area.

Free dry camping area (AKA boondocking) in the Kofa NWR. Camping area is at the bottom of Crystal Hill. No amenities!

Crystal Hill has just that, crystals! You are allowed to collect the quartz crystals without the aid of tools. No digging!

I wouldn’t suggest camping here if there is rain forecast. The camping area is next to a large wash that looks like it sees a lot of water.

We camped here in our 28ft truck camper in March of ‘09. There should be plenty of room for all sizes though. No sprint cellular signal There was only one other camper here when we stayed. While we were there, the painted lady butterflies were migrating to Mexico. We saw hundreds of them.

Recreational (noncommerical) rockhounding is permitted only in the designated area known as Crystal Hill. On the remainder of the Kofa NWR, rock or mineral collecting is prohibited.

General Camping Rules at KofA:
Camping is permitted. Visitors may select their own campsites; however, applicable state law prohibits camping within 1/4 mile of water holes. Vehicles must remain within 100 feet of designated roads. Backpackers may camp anywhere beyond the 100 feet limit, keeping in mind the location of waterholes. All camping is limited to 14 days during any 12-month period.

Directions:
Approximately 8 miles south of Quartzsite. Between Yuma and Quartzsite, Arizona on Hwy 95 @ milepost 95. You will see the sign for Crystal Hill. Once you do, take the dirt road east for three miles. You will come to an information board. Go three more miles on the same road. Crystal hill will be on your left.

From I-10:Take exit 242 toward Avra Valley Rd (0.3 mi). Merge onto I-10 Frontage Rd W (236 ft) Turn left at W Avra Valley Rd (5.2 mi) Turn left at N Sandario Rd (7.7 mi). Then head west on Manville Rd until you reach a gate at the end of it (7.6mi). If the gate is closed, open it, drive through, and close it behind you. Turn right after gate into large open BLM area. Make sure gates are left in condition they are found in.

Has water pump and bathroom. Located on east side of river right after highway bridge on edge of Ennis. Access on right side of road. Small fee. Located 0.5 mile southeast of Ennis on US Highway 287, milepost 48.
