Thanks for making the changes; that helped a good bit. I think we still need to clarify use of our campsites. My husband and I own the acreage and since we retired, we operate it as an educational and recreational resource for the community. Most usage is by visiting scientists and dayhikers.
We made a decision early on to allow limited camping so people could spend more time in their study area or to introduce young people to "no-trace" rules through family or church groups or scouting. We soon learned that we would have to develop some strict rules so that camping does not interfere with the "preserve" aspect of the land. I will attach the camping permit below. Since we have been added to the "free campsite" websites, we are having numerous requests from people who don't really know what they are asking for, and it has wasted their time (and ours).
I hope that this helps you to understand our particular project. We appreciate what you are doing to share information, but you may decide that you want to delete our preserve from your listings. I wish that every website that is posting us as "free camping" would be as responsive as you are!

Cane Creek Canyon Nature Preserve
Our camping rules are to protect the land from abuse and to keep it in a pristine state for future visitors.
Campers: Your future use of this property depends on your compliance with these rules
Prior approval with at least 24 hours notice is required. Requests may be made by phone or e-mail (256.381.6301/lacefiel@hiwaay.net). There is no charge for camping on the preserve.
- Follow "Leave No Trace" Outdoor Ethics guidelines. Please leave no signs of your visit (trash, etc.). Information about Leave No Trace ethics available from the information kiosk.
- Camping is allowed for access to the preserve only. Group size limited to 6, except by special permission (educational groups, scouts, organized hiking groups). Two-night limit per visit; once per month.
- Camp in established campsites unless specific request made for backcountry camping. On weekends from March 15 until May 15, only backcountry camping is allowed except by special permission. All rock shelters are considered protected archeological sites and no camping is permitted in these at any time.
- Campers must arrive in time to safely set up camp before dark. Arrive a minimum of one hour before sunset.
- Our driveway is closed at dark. No entering or leaving from dusk until dawn (vehicles must be parked in designated area by dusk and not leave until dawn)
- Firearms and alcohol are not permitted on the preserve. Enjoy nature!
- Campfires are by daily request only, as burn conditions allow. Please check before having any open fires. No living trees or "green wood" may be cut at any time.
