Very nice site. But I'm afraid that if we have to enter every campsite one at a time, the site will never reach a critical mass of campsites. I think that's the major reason why previous attempts to do similar things have failed.
There must be a way to enter existing lists. For example, the list of free and low-cost overnight parking that movinsue uploaded to <http://www.discoveryowners.com/cginfolinks.htm>.
The .AN1 file contains GPS coordinates and descriptive title for a large number of sites. If the .AN1 format is hard to parse, it's easy to convert it to a .csv (comma-delimited plain text).
I have similar lists in my own mapping system (Delorme Street Atlas), although I format mine as map notes to allow more text to describe the type of site, access restrictions, etc. The content of my mapnote would have to go into your "description" field.
It would be really tedious to enter all this information via the existing web site interface. Shouldn't it be possible to enter an entire list of this sort into your database automatically? (I presume you'd have to write a little code <g>).
If this were possible, you could get hundreds, perhaps thousands, of campsites entered practically overnight.
In many cases, would be important for us to be able to quickly add additional information to campsite listings that are already in your database. Is it possible to add this feature? This is particularly desirable for those campsites that are entered automatically, since the existing lists will be lacking some of the information that your website requests.
