Thanks for starting this site! The map feature is great. I have a few questions.

We just stayed in a campground in the Black Hills in South Dakota which has no charge in the off season. It's opened all year as long as there isn't too much snow. Can you have a different colored marker for places like this – sometimes free?

We often just pull off the highway when we're in national forests. We might drive back a half of a mile or so on a dirt road , find a nice level spot and spend the night. Is anyone interested in this? I could provide a mile marker or forest road # if it's a good spot.

I know that there's a controversy about rest areas, Walmarts ,casinos etc. I agree about the Walmarts and rest areas. There are other ways to find those and this site will get full of junk if you put all of them in. But there are places like Texas where you are allowed to stay in picnic areas of which there are many along rural roads. So I think that if someone finds in an exceptional rest area they should post it.  As far as casinos go , we stay in them a lot and even though they're nothing like boondocking out in the forest , they are much better than staying at a Walmart or a rest area. Plus they're often way out in the countryside , perfect for staying the night when you're just meandering down the blue roads.

Welcome to the site, Karen!

I do hope it helps you find a place to relax for the night (or a week) on your journeys.

a different colored marker for places like this – sometimes free?

Right now, if they are free 1/2 of the year and $20 the rest, we are adding them as free and making sure to note the prices and times in the description. If it were free part of the year and under $10 the rest of the year, I would list it as a pay site and note that the dates that it is free in the description. I welcome additional community feedback on the additional marker type. Hmmm… I might just go ahead and add an "Free in off-season" checkbox in the submit page. The more data on a place the better!

We often just pull off the highway when we're in national forests…….

The community and I are definitely interested in those kind of places. We would appreciate any that you can add.

Walmarts…

Hopefully the new toggle feature will end some of the site type woes….

Thanks again for visiting and for your feedback!

cheers,

jenn
