Free BLM Boondocking. Dry camping AKA: no facilities! Lots of primitive camping areas in a maze of roads. Some campsites have stone campfire rings. While area is OK for big rigs, look before you leap. The further in you go, the higher the clearance required. Not the best place if there has been or it is forecast to rain.
Cemeteries nearby.
Directions:
From Congress, at SR89 and SR71 go SW on SR-71 and turn R on Ghost Town Rd drive about 2miles. Turn R on dirt local rd into camping area.

Local people use this area as a dump. Roads are pretty bad so you need a high axil truck. I wouldn’t camp here.
Actually, I just drove through here today and the roads were pretty good. Looks like they may have bulldozed the main road recently as it was about 6 or 8″ below the various little side spur roads. But, overall, the area was clean and a great place to boondock. Verizon 3G is a little weak, so bring a booster. Propane is available in town a few miles away, and there’s also an RV dump station at the Escapees park about 5 miles south.
There are two cemetaries in this area, and the road is graded to both of them. Greener and more wildlife than most of the BLM areas i’ve camped in. Pictures in my blog entry http://techno-viking.com/posts/congress-cemetary/
I’m here now and have driven around a lot so here are my notes:
On Ghost Town Rd. there is only .4 mile of washboard before turning onto the dirt rd. (The sign says ” To Pioneer Cemetery”, turn right at that point). The main dirt road (not Ghost Town Rd.)is good. If you’re in an RV or trailer (as I am) I would advise turning into the first right you come to, which is the first section of campsites. The roads here are good and the camp sites are large and pretty flat. The newer cemetery is the first left down the main dirt rd. This rd. is good only to the cemetery – don’t go farther down this rd. The Pioneer Cemetery is at the end of the main dirt rd. Again don’t go past this point. The roads to the campsites get more progressively rutted the farther down the main dirt you go – again, if you’re in an RV or trailer stick to the first section. But the whole area is pretty with much more green than I expected and even a few small trees for shade. This area is much nicer than going down East Stanton Rd., which is miles and miles of washboard, and more restricted areas in camping. Phone reception can be sketchy, but my internet with VW is good and Direct TV reception is excellent! Watch for rattlesnakes!
