This is a primitive BLM campground down a dirt/gravel road near Carlsbad Caverns National Park. There aren’t any facilities here. The fingers to camp in are very small. I wouldn’t suggest a rig over 30′ try camping here. As you can see from the pictures below, our 28′ rig barely made it into our spot.

High clearance vehicles only. While the road may look tame in the pictures below, there are many ruts and large rocks on the road in. 4×4 is not required under dry conditions.

There is a cave system in the area. The cave is fenced off. Please do not try to go into it without helmets, knee pads, 3 sources of lights, at least two friends, and an experienced guide. Visit the local BLM for directions and any guidance regarding going into it. This cave, formed of gypsum, is very maze like and has many entrances. This cave is about 4 miles long. Do not enter this cave if there is even a remote chance of flooding or rain in the mountains! You will drown. It is a natural drain for a LARGE area of desert land. If it rains and you’re in it, there ain’t nowhere to run.

Do not enter this cave without an experienced guide. Please respect the cave. Do not graffiti it, urinate in it, take anything from it, or leave anything in it. Please review these links to learn more about caving safety and responsibility. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time.
