campground was once the site of a fire lookout tower. There is a small picnic area with an historic picnic shelter that was constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The campground receives heavy weekend use from off-highway vehicle users who ride the adjacent Sheltowee Trace and Renfro Loop Trails. These trails may be accessed from the campground. Maps of the trails are available from the London Ranger Station and the Forest Supervisor’s Office in Winchester, Ky.

Do not come from the south side if you are in a big rig. We tried to come get there on Hwy 89 from Livingston last fall and ended up having to turn around because of a low weight bridge (at night, on a one lane road..fun). I believe it was 3 tons. Our truck camper is about 7 tons. Also, Hwy 89 is one lane in places.
Local friends told us that all of the routes to S-Tree from Hwy 1955 were rough 4×4 trails. We ended up backtracking and taking 1955 to 421 to mckee. Once there we decided to try out Turkey Foot campground and never made it to S-tree.
