This is what we call a score! This is a free, well laid out, awesomely beautiful and scenic campground. Fantastic sunset views!! Each spot has plenty of space and direct waterfront access for swimming in the lake.
Directions: I-70, Exit 290, then N on Milford Lake Rd ~ 2.4 mi, R on SR 244 ~ 0.2 mi, L on Rolling Hills Rd ~ 0.7 mi, L into Free Camping Loop.
There are no signs to the free camping area – it’ll be your second left after turning onto Rolling Hills Rd. If you miss the turn, you’ll end up at a commercially operated campground – this is not the spot!
There is a nice turn around at the end of the .9 mile camping loop – so take a moment and scope it out for your ideal score of a spot.
We also had excellent 3G Sprint coverage. There is a single pit toilet and dumpster – but no other amenities. No signs posted with regulations, however federal land stays are typically limited to 14 nights.

I’ve stayed here a couple of times. There are three areas with fire rings and gravel parking. The first two left turns once you enter the park, and the third is near the boat ramp. At the “T” turn left toward the ramp, then turn right again on another gravel/dirt road. The pit latrene is on the second left. After the second left but before the “T” on the left is a fish cleaning station.
Excellent Campsite. I stopped here for the night on a road trip to the east coast. Nice and quiet spot away from the highway. The lake is beautiful and there are plenty of trees around (I use a hammock). Can be quite buggy so come prepared. Otherwise, I had a great nights rest and even spotted a few shooting stars.
