Kofa Wildlife Management Refuge has many roads going in that have dispersed camping. The best sites, the most sites, and the more isolated sites can be found on King Road. King Rd is farther away (from Quartzite) than Palm Canyon, but is worth it

Remote & Good Access

Remote campsite with great access, entry road is well maintained despite the heavy use. The best thing you can ask for. The highway is visible and audible, you have the choice to venture further away for a more remote campsite rig and road not withstanding.
This site gave me the best Verison signal yet, while parking within line of sight to the highway. Not sure about earlier reviews, new tower maybe?
0 Sprint signal, not sure if other reports mentioned that.
There are possibly 100+ campsites here even with modest spacing let alone going further into the KofA preserve.

Much prettier than Quartzsite, and >25mi away

I'll add this spot to my winter rotation. Much quieter and less popular than Quartzsite, but of course services are further away. It is more than 25mi away from Q in case you are trying to time out your 28d to return.
The highway is visible from my spot but I can't hear it. I can visually make out 18-wheelers but no other traffic.
Some OHV traffic but not bad. It rained while I was here and some lower-clearance sedans wisely chose not to wade into water crossing the graded dirt/gravel road. It's a firm surface but they could have stalled out.
Decent verizon, good ATT, no TMO at all. No OTA signal on my cheesy flatpanel antenna.
Note that King Rd BLM abuts the Kofa wildlife refuge proper on the east. You will see a fish and wildlife marker and signage that explicitly allows 14d camping there, too.

Perfect Basecamp to Explore Kofa NWR

Camped at the King Road Bureau of Land Management (BLM) 14-day free dispersed camping area immediately prior to entering the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge and approximately 38 miles south of Quartzsite, Arizona. Scenic mountains make for a spectacular backdrop and saguaro and teddy bear cholla abound. AT&T cellular service was 5G and clocked in at 66.1 Mbps download speed and 14.4 Mbps upload speed. Verizon cellular service clocked in at .60 Mbps download speed and 9.53 Mbps upload speed and was barely usable. The campsite I selected is big rig friendly and is located at grid coordinates: 33.2585928, -114.2310256. Once on King Road take a right turn at grid coordinates 33.2590085, -114.2306706 to access the aforementioned campsite. There is plenty of space for multiple big rigs at this location. Took some time to do some daytime backpacking within the wild and scenic Kofa. Thoroughly enjoyed our boondocking stay at the King Road BLM.
Stayed here in a 37 foot-long Fifth Wheel (RV). LivingOurDreamNow would stay here again.

Thanks for the video. Love the desert! Don't be afraid to take that truck down a rough road. It can handle it!

Good Disperse

A very good disperse area. There is some OHV traffic on the King Rd. - Which can cause some dust. Lots of good hiking and wildlife.

Whether you just need to know where to camp nearby or you want to plan a free camping road trip, we've got you covered. You can simply use your smart phone's GPS to find camping near you or even use our trip planner to plan your route from coast to coast.
Our community provides the best free camping information available. Free campgrounds can be hard to find. Freecampsites.net makes it easy. We give you a simple, map based search engine to find free and cheap camping areas. Community reviews and ratings provide you with up to date information and help you select the best camp site for your next camping trip.
This is a platform for sharing campgrounds and camp sites you have discovered. We are community driven, and while we will be adding many free camping spots, we hope that you will add some of your favorite camping places as well. By sharing camping information freely, we can all spend less time researching campgrounds, spend less money, and more time camping. If everyone contributes a few campsites, we'll all have more places to go camping.
Please come back and let us know what you find! User reviews help other campers decide on their next camping destination. The more information you have, the more informed your decisions.Whether you enjoy tent camping, car camping or RV camping, our goal is to help you find the best places to go camping. We believe that free camping areas are often the most beautiful and peaceful camp sites. Our focus is on public lands. You own these lands and you are entitled to use them. We especially like camping on Forest Service land, BLM (Bureau of Land Management) areas, WMA's (Wildlife Management Areas) and county or city parks. We hope you enjoy the same style of camping.
We are not actively seeking Wal-Marts, truckstops or other parking lots and will not be adding very many of these. There are enough Wal-Mart and truck stop directories out there already. However, if a member of the community finds one of these locations to be useful for overnight RV parking and creates an entry, we may approve the listing.

Beautiful Campsite
We stayed here on 2/21. It was a Sunday night and there were still multiple sites available. You are far enough from other sites for privacy, but there are enough people around for it to not be creepy. Beautiful sunset views and nice hiking. Good AT&T reception. We car camped with our dogs and we will for sure be back.
