Free, dispersed, desert camping at numerous sites along Crown King Road in the Prescott National Forest. I-17 exit 259 and head west. This dirt road is rumored to be in excellent condition and suitable for all sized rigs. As are the camping locations. I haven't scouted it yet.. you might want to before committing to take your 50' rig out there. Sites are at least one miles in and up to five from the interstate.

Stayed Sep 2023. Road in is washboard, but slow n steady in a 30ft Class C is doable. Would not attempt if it wet.

Stayed here in a 29 foot-long Class C (RV). J.R. would stay here again.

Attempted to stay here in February of 2023 in a class A diesel pusher. My rig was too heavy for the current conditions. It’s been a fairly wet winter and there were spots of standing water and lots of mud. And unfortunately, the large spots were occupied by small campers and or tents.

Stayed here in a 42 foot-long Class A + a Toad (RV). Tami Martin would stay here again.

Stayed here 5 nights in early June 2022. Sites are spread far apart so it is quiet and private. Town has 3 gas stations, a Family Dollar, Dollar General and a market which I don't recommend. Dump station and potable water available at RV park behind Family Dollar. The 50s Diner is a great place to eat. I enjoyed my time here.

Stayed here in a 19 foot-long Trailer (RV). Mschill3 would stay here again.

Stayed here 4/14/2022. Probably around 10 sites. Arrived and night and it was easy to navigate, although the road is pretty washboarded. Sites are large and spaced very far apart; there is no shade or real privacy. Drove about two miles and turned right at the stop sign onto SR 69, found a decent site on the right shortly after. Make sure not to pull into a road marked as private.

devhollister would stay here again.

Took exit 259, made left turn, drove about 2-3 miles west on graded road in minivan, found decent spot w/ 2 bar cell reception & few local cows heading home in evening & passing by in mornings, stayed 5 quiet days.

I stayed about 1/2 mile past given GPS coordinates. Road is dirt and after a week of rain was no problem for my Caravan. It's a bit washboarded, just slow down. Verizon speed 14.5mbps using my phone as a hotspot. Not much trash, a few broken bottles.

Beautiful, non-level sites on hard packed dirt road with incredible views. Strong Verizon signal. Very weak T-Mobile site.

Pretty, rocky hillside, highway accessible but far enough away to be quiet with views.

I camped here for a night in mid-November and found it just perfect. Reasonably close off the highways, but not noisy or visually unsightly. I came in late, and saw a few campsites taken within the first mile or so, but kept driving another mile over a hill until I grabbed a great little spot away from the rest. Fire pit and turnaround for most rigs. The gravel access road wasn't too far from me, but not enough traffic to be very annoying. Left early the next morning, and can't remember if I got any cell signal where I was. Easy in/out.

Stayed here in a 12 foot-long Truck Camper (RV). saravanning would stay here again.

Currently camped on Bloody Basin Road in Agua Fria National Monument. Took a side trip to check out Crown King Road. Cordes is about 3 miles from the hwy 17 exit. Between the exit and Cordes, there are several spots to boondock with any size rig. The best onr id at about the 2.5 mile point - several "turn around" spots with fire pits in the middle - big rig friendly. At Cordes, turned right (an actual stop sign!) and went to Mayer (8.5 miles) - nowhere to boondock off of this road.

If you drove to Mayer, you drove past numerous camping spots. .. at least at this time, 2017. If you had turned left, there are, again numerous pull off sites. I am currently camped at the top of a hill. I can see 2 cell towers, can also see I17 about 5 miles away, towards the SE. I can stream netflix videos to my tablet.
Crown King Road goes up to Crown King, which is about 23 miles away. If you can, put some space between you and the road,
people drive fast and throw up a lot of dust. This IS a main road.

There are a few sites right off of Bloody Basin Road, going west between 1.5 and 5 miles. The interstate 17 is nearby to the east, but its behind some hills so you really do not hear it. I got 44 TV channels and a 3G Verizon signal. There is a cell tower behind one of the hills, so perhaps from a different site with light of sight to the tower you could get 4G. I stayed there 3 days. A little traffic on the road but not bad and people were friendly. Cordes Ranch (population 11) is about a mile from where I camped and they have a little store where you can get snacks and cold drinks.
