Dispersed camping on Lake Mead.
A pass is required to enter the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. A Federal Interagency pass will get you in. Otherwise it is $10 for 7 days and $30 for a yearly pass.
11/2015 - Prices will double in 2016 ie. $20/week
05/2014 - Edited to reflect fee increase was $5/week and $20/year is $10/week and $30/year
Hey guys! we tried to camp here last night and this road is currently IMPASSABLE for sedans or 2 wheel drive low clearance vehicles. Don't be fooled, it is one of the toughest drives we have tried in our '05 Civic. We gave up and bailed out at Callville Bay, about 6 miles further down Northshore Dr. It is only $5 to camp there (with an interagency pass), and has water and bathrooms.
Beware about this one, or just have yourself a high clearance vehicle! =)

Probably a better tent or small RV location. A long, slow, bumpy road with few really nice spots to set up. We scouted it and thought it not suited for a longer term set up with our 5th wheel.

Is a high clearance vehicle needed for the road down to the camping area?

The road leading down to the lake is very bumpy, so go slowly. Once you get to the lake stay on what looks like many cars have gone on before to camp...We used our minivan to get down there and had no trouble because we stayed on the "beaten path." However a friend was with us and decided that simply because an area looked drive able that they'd try it and got stuck in the sand. They were in a little truck... 2 wheel drive.

Beautiful
Stayed here in a 10 foot-long PopUp Trailer (RV). Yuri would stay here again.
