Not quite "Lost Creek"... worth the drive, but pretty well trafficked for out in the boonies?
Reviewed February 22, 2021
I enjoyed my 3 nights here, with the prime #8 campsite nestled back against the creek. However, it is frequented as a bathroom stop for 4wd jeepers on the weekends, no matter the season. about 2-3 jeeps per hour between 10am and 7pm.
Some people show up way past dark and post up for just the night, so there is some odd activity after dark. On one night someone lost control of 2-3 of their dogs and they took off into the woods and barked for over an hour until they wrangled them up by shooting a .22 pistol until the dogs calmed down (just in case you forgot you was in the south).
washing dishes in the creek and the night it was so dark i couldnt see an inch in front of my face were some highlights.
Stayed here in a 22 foot-long Passenger Vehicle. dongcheadle would stay here again.
Secluded and peaceful, but campsites close together

Drove in pretty late to this campground on a Sat (1/23/21) but there were plenty of open spots. The road in is dirt and pretty long (7 miles and took me about 20 min since I was driving in the dark) but I was surprised at how smooth it was considering the length of the road; hardly any washboarding, just a few small potholes the first mile, and I had no trouble driving in with my Toyota Highlander (2wd). My Verizon cell signal went in and out the drive in and there's no signal at the campsite, so be prepared for that; best to have music, weather, and directions downloaded. My campsite had a picnic table, lantern post, stone fire pit, flat area for a tent, and there is a vault toilet nearby. The campsites are all very close together, but all my neighbors were quiet, slept like a baby and there's a stream nearby to fall asleep to. Super peaceful, but not particularly dispersed and probably louder when it's full. Would definitely recommend this place, just know you run the risk of driving 7 miles in to a full campground on weekends so I'd suggest getting in early for a spot. Didn't stay long enough to check for any nearby trails and didn't see any information about them at the kiosk at the time I went. Would love to come back. Also, Lake Ocoee is about a 30 min drive away, peaceful place to kayak and fish.

Incredibly beautiful.

A beautiful place. I was the only one there for a week early November. The road in was decent. I still drove slow and enjoyed the scenery and views. I did not see another person the entire 6 days. I did see a couple of bears while on a hike. The campsites were pretty clean. I did pick up a large bag of trash that I took home. I also cleaned the pit toilets. The ladies was nasty. I love this place and have been here before in the summer. It was great to see the views as you drive in with the leaves gone. I camped in my little 13 ft fiberglass Burro next to the creek. I slept so peaceful each night. I did not want to leave. I got a really good phone signal (Verizon) 1 mile before the campground. I hiked back up on the road (steep) a few times to make a call. I am 70 going on 30. My friends and family believe that this old Fart should not be in the woods alone. So its best that I call on occasion before they list me as missing. I really hope that I can one day cross to the next world in a place as beautiful as this. NO PHONE SIGNAL AT THE CAMPGROUND.
Stayed here in a 13 foot-long Trailer (RV). Joe Eric English would stay here again.
Joe, I love your reviews. I have read a couple and they are so detailed, I feel as if I am at the campsite. Thank you for all the details

Nice campsite. We camped during the week and only had 2 others at campsite. Nice and quite with easy access to creek. 7 mile gravel road isn’t too bad.
Joy hiked in and stayed here with a tent. Joy would stay here again.

NOT primitive
Reviewed December 11, 2017
That is not primitive camping. I drove out there to check it out. Like any forest service camprground...metal rings for fires...concrete picnic tables...tent "squares"...one site next to another...bathrooms...parking area...only thing that is similar to primitive is the lack of a fee.
Not bad, but NOT primitive.
Secluded in shady woods, reasonable accommodations, and a beautiful creek.

This is a good campground most of the time. On holidays and hunting season it's usually full. During summer, it gets busy on weekends if it isn't too hot, but during the week it's uncrowded, often empty. During winter it's usually empty most of the time.
The roads can be a bit rough at times, especially if they haven't graded it for awhile.
Big rigs can make it but, the long drive in is tedious, and the sites aren't laid out well enough to accommodate them. I wouldn't recommend anything over 20-22 feet.
Most people don't get a phone signal at all. there is no water or electric available, but there are tent pads, fire rings, and picknick tables and decent vault toilets, There are trash cans available too. the creek is cold and clear, being mountain fed. I use it for cooking and cleaning, but not for drinking unless boiled. There is a hiking trail next to camp, the Benton Mackeye I think?
There are other (dispersed) tent sites along the roads here, you just have to drive along and look for them. I've camped here many times and will again.
Stayed here in a Passenger Vehicle. backwoods88 would stay here again.

I've seen class Ad's in there before. I wouldn't take a brand new one in there but if you don't mind scraping a tree branch or two there are 4 spots that can fit a class A if they are available. Those spots usually go first.

Not worth the drive on that horrible gravel/boulder road.
Reviewed May 31, 2016
The gravel road going in was in pretty bad shape. There is no place to pull over when meeting another vehicle head on, which is really bad when you are towing a trailer. There should be reservations for this place, as after we arrived, it was completely full. When you are doing less than 10mph on the gravel road for 14 miles (7 in and 7 out), it was a big waste of time to find out it was full.
The campsites are so small and close together that there is no peace or privacy. Really sad considering it is so remote. You drive all that way and then would not have a nice camping experience.

I spent a week there during bear hunting season. Nice free campground on Big Lost Creek. It has a clean vault toilet, trash cans, tables, fire pits and lantern rings.
I think there was 15 marked sites. Off of Hwy 64 you turn on Hwy 30. Its a very curvy paved road. About 7 miles you'll see the sign for Lost Creek. Another 7 miles of gravel mountain road is camp. It's not bad as far as potholes. A few the first mile is all. There was a Class A that pulled into camp while I was there so it's possible.
Stay on 30 and you come out in Benton for shopping or go back to Ocoee.
I can see this campground very fun in the summer.

Whether you enjoy tent camping, car camping or RV camping, our goal is to help you find the best places to go camping. We believe that free camping areas are often the most beautiful and peaceful camp sites. Our focus is on public lands. You own these lands and you are entitled to use them. We especially like camping on Forest Service land, BLM (Bureau of Land Management) areas, WMA's (Wildlife Management Areas) and county or city parks. We hope you enjoy the same style of camping.
We are not actively seeking Wal-Marts, truckstops or other parking lots and will not be adding very many of these. There are enough Wal-Mart and truck stop directories out there already. However, if a member of the community finds one of these locations to be useful for overnight RV parking and creates an entry, we may approve the listing.
