Thompson Grove is a picnic area in Rita Blanca National Grassland. There is plenty of shade from cottonwood trees in the picnic area. It is surrounded by nothing but prairie and sky otherwise.
Amazing
I'm not sure why anyone would have anything negative to say about this place unless to detour people from coming and ruin this little free paradise ?
camp sites are set up good distance away from one another has picnic tables on concrete slabs place to build a fire and a little grill to cook on bathrooms are well maintained (little creepy since no lighting no water no place to wash hands no mirror to be vain in lol but it has toilet over a massive sewer in ground get nice little breeze among your behind and if your like me and have watched a fair share of scary movies it's super hard to do your buisness thinking a clowns going to poke you in the bootyhole) lol but other then the creepiness it's awesome clean and full of toilet paper better then squating in the woods and wiping your butt with poison ivy that's for sure.
days that the sky is clear and all other campers (if there are any have their lights off) you can see the milkyway and all the stars perfectly it's out in middle of nowhere but to me that makes for a wonderful time with the family ? since not a fan of people to begin with.
Definitely putting this down in the books for next time we are this way and need a place to rest.
Thank you whomever keeps up with this place was definitely a little blessing to find on our way home from Colorado this evening
Stayed here with a passenger vehicle and a tent. Kellie Joe Durbin would stay here again.

Great clean quite spot for a night
Wonderful spot. It was what you'd expect from a free campsite, gravel parking lot, picnic tables and grills, basic toilet. But the place was clearly we'll maintained. Quite and peaceful spot for a night.
Stayed here in a 12 foot-long Passenger Vehicle. Richard Ward would stay here again.

Quiet spot for a night time stopover
The camp is about 20 miles from everything, in the middle of nowhere. It was quite peaceful at night, cool, breezy, and quiet except for the faint sound of machines and trucks on US87. It was a little eerie out there and I agree with a previous review that it's a bit of an odd place for a camp. It does have shade and nice fire pits, the trees and grass were green. I think the dead trees have been cut down but the stumps were just thrown in the grass at the edges of the grounds. Overall I'd consider this place quiet, good for a one night stopover. Try to avoid it during the day because the flies are very bothersome.
Stayed here in a 10 foot-long Truck Camper (RV). Philip would stay here again.

Safe peaceful place to carcamp, vault bathrooms.
Car camped here twice now on two different road trips. I felt very safe both times. It’s a Dirt parking lot surrounded by grassy picnic area, there’s quite a few trees around and feels very peaceful. If you come late May be prepared for the Moth swarms.. they were everywhere including my car, had to shake everything out. I had one bar of service (AT&T)
Stayed here with a passenger vehicle and a tent. hannahbanana would stay here again.
